Off-track doors

Off-track garage door repair in Colorado Springs

The door is crooked, a roller is out of the track, or the panel is rubbing the jamb. Stop the opener. Eyal puts off-track garage doors back in line across Colorado Springs and checks why they jumped.

What off-track looks like

Crooked, rubbing, or a roller standing outside the metal

An off-track door is one or more rollers that have left the vertical or horizontal track, or a door that has racked so far that it is grinding the opening. You might see a gap at one bottom corner, a section bowed away from the wall, or a roller sitting in front of the track instead of in it. The opener may still run. That is the dangerous part. It will keep pulling a door that can no longer travel straight.

The usual causes in Colorado Springs are a cable that slipped, a bottom bracket that loosened, an impact from a car or a trash can, a roller that shattered, or a spring that broke and let one side drop. Wind on the east side, in Falcon and Calhan especially, can start a loose panel moving until a roller walks out. Hail does not throw a door off the track by itself, but a bent section can.

Forcing the door with the wall button, or having two people lift it back into the track, is how a simple roller problem becomes a bent track and a ruined panel. Tracks can be straightened when the bend is mild. A track that is kinked has to be replaced. You should hear which one it is before parts are ordered.

The visit

Put it back only after the cause is found

Eyal secures the door, then looks at cables, springs, brackets, rollers, and both tracks before the door is walked back into line. If a cable is off, that is repaired first. If a spring is broken, the door is not lifted back onto the track until the spring is replaced. Resetting a door onto a broken spring just drops it again.

Rollers that flat-spotted or cracked get replaced. Hinges that tore out of a stile get replaced. The track is checked for bolts pulled from the jamb. Then the door is balanced, the opener limits are checked, and it is run through a full cycle. A door that still binds after it is back in the track is not finished.

Tell us if the door came off while a car was under it, or if a section is creased. That changes whether this is a reset and hardware visit or also a panel replacement. If you are not sure, send a photo with the quote request.

After an impact

A bumper, a basketball hoop, or a gust

A car that bumps the door from the outside often knocks the bottom rollers out and creases the lowest section. If the rest of the door is straight, the repair is the track, the rollers, and maybe that one panel. If several sections are folded, replacement of the door is the honest recommendation. Eyal will say so on site rather than rebuild a door that will never seal.

Posted hours are Monday through Friday 7am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 8pm. An off-track door that is stuck open, with the house open to the alley or the wind, is an urgent call inside those hours. Overnight, leave it blocked if you can do that from the ground without standing under a crooked door, and call when the lines are open.

Price

You hear the price before work starts

Eyal looks at the door, tells you what failed, and quotes the job before parts go on. A light single-car door and a heavy insulated double are not the same job, so this site does not publish one flat price.

New doors, openers, and hardware include the manufacturer's warranty. If a labor warranty applies to that job, it is written on the quote.

If the door is stuck

Leave a dangerous door alone

A broken spring, a cable off the drum, or a door out of the track can drop without warning. Do not pull the red release cord and do not keep pressing the wall button. Call 719-308-9951 or send the address and what the door is doing.

Hours are Monday through Friday 7am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 8pm. Same-day is the goal for urgent calls inside those hours.

Questions

Questions about this repair

Should I try to push the door back into the track?

No. A door off the track can be under spring tension. Pushing it back in without securing it is how fingers and panels get crushed. Call and leave it.

Can a bent track be straightened?

A mild bend often can. A kink, a tear at a bolt hole, or a track pulled off the jamb needs a new section of track. You hear which one before the work starts.

Why did it come off the track?

A loose cable, a broken spring, a failed roller, or an impact. The visit fixes the door and the cause. Putting the rollers back and leaving a bad cable guarantees a repeat.

Do you cover the towns outside Colorado Springs?

Yes. Monument, Falcon, Fountain, Peyton, Black Forest, and the other towns on the service-area pages are on the same route. An off-track door is treated as urgent.
