Panel replacement

Garage door panel replacement in Colorado Springs

One creased section from hail, a bumper, or a ladder is not always a whole new door. Eyal replaces individual garage door panels in Colorado Springs when a matching section will actually fit and the rest of the door is sound.

When one panel is enough

A dent is not the same as a ruined door

A garage door is a stack of sections, hinged together, not one slab. If a single section is creased and the sections above and below are straight, the stiles are intact, and the door still sits square in the opening, that one section can often be replaced. The new panel has to match the height, the style, the gauge, and as close as possible the color. Sun-faded paint will not be a perfect twin of a brand-new section. Eyal will tell you how close the match will be before you order it.

Colorado Springs hail is the reason this page exists. A storm can pepper every west-facing door on a street and only crease one section badly enough to matter. Insurance may be part of your decision. The repair recommendation is separate from the claim: a door that still seals and tracks straight does not need to be thrown away because of cosmetic dings. A door with a folded section that binds the track does.

A bumper that hits the bottom section is the other common one. Bottom sections also carry the cables and the bottom seal. Replacing that panel includes moving the brackets and the seal onto the new section, then checking that the cables track evenly. It is not a cosmetic swap.

When the whole door should go

Say so early

Replacement of the whole door is the better job when several sections are bent, the door is twisted, the style has been discontinued and no section will match, the insulation is falling apart inside the stiles, or the springs and track are at the end of their life anyway. Putting a new panel in a door that is already racked wastes the panel. The replacement page covers insulated steel, carriage styles, and what happens to the opener.

Discontinued styles are common on doors older than about fifteen years. If the emboss is no longer made, Eyal will say that a close match is the best a single panel can do, or that a full door is cleaner. You should not discover a six-week backorder after the old panel has been cut out. The order is confirmed before the section comes off.

Color is the other limit. Factory white and almond are easy. A custom paint or a door that has chalked in the sun will show the new section. Some homeowners paint the whole door after one panel goes in. That is your call, and it is part of the conversation, not a surprise at the end.

The visit

Measure, order, then install

The first visit measures the section height, counts the hinges, and checks the track and springs. If the panel is a stock size on hand, the repair can finish the same day. If it has to be ordered, you get the timeline before anyone removes the damaged section. The door can often keep working, carefully, while a cosmetic panel is on order. It should not keep working if the section is folded into the track.

Install day is the hinges, the rollers, the seal if it is the bottom section, and a balance check. A heavier or lighter replacement section can change how the springs feel. If the door is suddenly heavy, the springs are addressed in the same visit rather than left for a callback. New sections from the manufacturer carry that manufacturer's warranty. Labor warranty, if any, is written on the quote.

Price

You hear the price before work starts

Eyal looks at the door, tells you what failed, and quotes the job before parts go on. A light single-car door and a heavy insulated double are not the same job, so this site does not publish one flat price.

New doors, openers, and hardware include the manufacturer's warranty. If a labor warranty applies to that job, it is written on the quote.

If the door is stuck

Leave a dangerous door alone

A broken spring, a cable off the drum, or a door out of the track can drop without warning. Do not pull the red release cord and do not keep pressing the wall button. Call 719-308-9951 or send the address and what the door is doing.

Hours are Monday through Friday 7am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 8pm. Same-day is the goal for urgent calls inside those hours.

Questions

Questions about this repair

Can you replace just the dented section?

Often, if the rest of the door is square and a matching section is still made. If the door is twisted or the style is discontinued, a full door is the recommendation.

Will the new panel match the color?

Factory colors on a newer door come close. A sun-faded or custom-painted door will show the new section. You hear that before the panel is ordered.

Should I file hail damage as a full replacement?

That is between you and the insurer. From the door's side, cosmetic dings and one creased section are not the same repair. Eyal will describe the actual damage in plain language.

How long does a panel take?

A stock section can be a same-day repair. An ordered section waits on the manufacturer. The damaged door stays up, if it is safe to use, until the part is in.
